Affan

"Hi all, my name is Affan and I was born and brought up in Delhi. My association with this craft happened by choice, since my father has been in this field for many years. Actually my father’s family was altogether in a different field. They had a metal polishing and finishing workshop.

"My father had the opportunity to meet and interact with artisans who specialized in zari and zardozi embroideries, which are very famous in India and abroad. This type of work was originally done in Agra. My father was so fascinated with it, that he decided to go to Agra and learn the art. He stayed there and for several months and later worked with an organization. After he mastered the art, he thought to start on his own workshop. He came back to Delhi and eventually taught me and my brother, and this is how we started on this journey.

"Zardozi embroidery is a detailed, painstaking job, and at some point it becomes very difficult, but as my dad would always say to encourage us, 'if you want to learn something in life you should be determined; nothing is impossible.'

"The response to our work has been great. Christmas is our busiest time of the year, since a lot of people seek our holiday ornaments. But we do craft other types of products, such as home furnishing and other decorative accents.

"It's great to be associated with Novica. I am happy that our products and art will be appreciated by many people across the globe."
