"Hello. I'm Miguel Angel Aguilar Anicama and I was born in Lima on February 24, 1976. Everyone in my family is a painter, from my mother to my aunts and cousins, and I grew up with the scent of oils and varnish. But my desire, more than anything, was to attend the School of Fine Arts. I anxiously awaited the moment, and there they showed me paintings and sculptures.
"I remember when I was in first grade and my teacher congratulated my mother on my drawings. She told her I gave them a different expression than other children did. That was when my mother realized that I, too, was the consequence of art.
"When I finally entered the School of Fine Art, I had a true contact with artistic painting. I strongly identified with so many painters. I felt so excited. For me, it was living in a very romantic world that seemed like a fairy tale, a fantasy. When I'd go out on the street, I had to face the world's reality again and leave behind those people who understand and enjoy our art and painting.
"I'd describe my own work as mostly figurative. Since 1990, I've dedicated myself exclusively to painting. My motivation is my desire to express everything, to transmit the longing for freedom. And I've achieved many of my goals where everything is a search, an exploration.
"To find an artistic and pictorial language is my greatest challenge, as well as to perfect my technique. I want the people who see my work to know what an Aguilar painting is.
"I really like what is real, what is natural. Seeking new themes is part of being an artist, without losing the figurative that I enjoy and identify with. I strive to experience new things and improve day by day.
"To all my Novica friends who contemplate my works only, if only for an instant, I need you to know that I want them to be to your complete liking. I hope you experience in them the same sensations I've tried to express. Thank you for being there."
